Date: Tue, July 14 1998 Hello again, I'm in one of the public libraries in Townsville (not the main one -- this one is in Aitkenvale, but I'm using it because it is not as heavily booked and because the staff here are very nice. But it's a maximum of 45 minutes and that goes very quickly, especially with Hotmail which can be so painfully slow. Usually happens that after even a little "Housekeeping" (i.e. setting up a few Nicknames, moving messages around into folders etc.) that the time's almost gone. So I'm not going to have time to continue with my "Rockhampton to Mackay" saga this time. I'm not back in Townsville installed in a caravan park (called the "Town & Country" living under canvas once again. My stay on Magnetic Island was very pleasant indeed -- like a little oasis of comfort (actually living in a house!) plus very scenic surroundings after months and months of caravan parks of varying quality, often full of "pickers" who drove me crazy. Town & Country is very busy (fully booked) but thankfully no pickers, and I'm relatively comfortable there. My tent is in a quiet corner; there is a barbecue area under cover, the staff are all very helpful andI've had some very interesting people to talk to. I came over in the ferry last Friday, in the late afternoon, so as usual put my tent up in the failing light. Ho hum. The International Festival of Chamber Music is on right now; more about
that next time. Don. |
