Founded in 1994 by writer/composer, Andrew Garton, Fierce Throat is an experimental choir based in Melbourne, Australia. Its repertoire consists of pieces from the non-traditional opera, Black Harlequin, as well as works in progress from Ausländer und Staatenlose, an online interactive opera.

The Black Harlequin libretto has been written as a series of spoken word choral pieces with a mixture of melodic and harmonic components. These are complimented by a score largely consisting of soundscapes and numerous illustrations for a small acoustic ensemble.

Libretto from Ausländer und Staatenlose is being written with original works by the author's Grandmother, which have been translated from Russian. These form a body of work incorporated into the author's Masters project being conducted at the Centre for Animation and Interactive Multimedia, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
